Student Community Service

Oak Hill Academy students are very proud of their accomplishments at Oak Hill and out in the surrounding communities. Under the leadership of the Student Council, the students spend much time and effort working to help others.

The first project of the year is participation in the annual CROP WALK held in Red Bank in October. This venture aids people in need of food and shelter here at home and in many places around the globe. The students hold a “pep rally” in order to get the OHA families involved. At the holidays, the Mitten Tree and Food Drive both provide items much in need by local families. New books are obtained at the Fall Book Fair. Student Council members then read and distribute the books to children at Monmouth Day Care Center. This kind of hands-on work is very meaningful to our students.

Student Council sponsors dress-down-for-a-dollar days in order to support a variety of worthy organizations including: UNICEF, The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, March of Dimes, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Dream Project in Dominican Republic, Doctors without Borders, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and more. They continue to sponsor Kendy, a child living in Danita’s Orphanage in Haiti. They assemble and send packages to the orphanage. They sponsor a special walk for the orphanage that is held in our community.

Even our youngest students get involved in community service. Our pre-kindergarten class enjoys visiting local adult communities. They hold a small concert and provide goodies to their guests. Kindergarten students worked extra “chores” at home to pay for the yarn that they used to make blankets for the residents of Ronald McDonald House

On campus, it is common to find students helping other students. Many of OHA’s older students help the younger ones in the after school clubs or by being a peer tutor. Many volunteer as guides for school open houses and help out at school events. This not only provides help for others, but fosters a true sense of community among our students.
