Model UN Team shines at CBA


On Friday, November 2th Oak Hill Academy took a group of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders to participate in the Christian Brothers Academy’s Model United Nations competition. The students did a tremendous job preparing and presenting as was evident by the FOURTEEN individual awards bestowed! Oak Hill Academy received the most awards out of all of the 11 schools at the Model UN Conference. Oak Hill had the largest contingent of students participate and were complimented by their preparedness and seriousness as well as being awarded the Best Large Delegation Award.
Individual Awards:
- Michael Gao – 8 th Grade (Holmdel): Outstanding Delegate Position Paper (#2 out of 125 students!) & Verbal Commendation JCC Allied
- Audrey Yan – 8 th Grade (Holmdel): Honorable Mention Position Paper & Verbal Commendation JCC Axis
- Saujan Christie – 8 th Grade (Toms River): Best Delegate UN Security Council
- Nicholas Lane – 6 th Grade (Lincroft): Verbal Commendation UN National Security Council
- Samantha Garber – 8 th Grade (Colts Neck): Best Delegate US Senate
- Amelia Shaffer – 8 th Grade (Middletown): Honorable Mention US Senate
- Raina Bhattacharyya – 8 th Grade (Marlboro): Honorable Mention International Maritime Organization
- Ethan Fianko – 6 th Grade (Freehold): Honorable Mention Historical General Assembly 1980’s
- Demetra Giannakopoulos – 8 th Grade (Colts Neck): Honorable Mention JCC Allied
- Kevin Kinsella – 8 th Grade (Lincroft): Outstanding Delegate JCC allied
- Robert Schweikert – 8 th Grade (Atlantic Highlands): Outstanding Delegate JCC Axis
- Thibaut Fabricant – 8 th Grade (Red Bank): Best Delegate JCC Axis

The team of students worked diligently to research their countries and positions in order to be prepared for the event. The Model UN students were moderated by OHA teacher, Mrs. Lynn Matson, and Mrs. Linda Vacca assisted her with the students. In addition there were several Oak Hill Alumni involved in the competition as well: CBA Co-Chairs: William Walsh and Bryan Soler (’15); Mason Garber, Grant D’Orsi and Peter Jaworski (’17) and Trinity Hall leader: Charlotte Walsh(’17).
